About Lorna Phillips

My story

I combine lawyering and professional leadership and governance coaching to provide my clients with comprehensive integrated solutions to issues arising from organisational change.

I began coaching in the 1980’s working as a facilitator for the probation and after care service in my hometown Birmingham, England. I didn’t know it then, but coaching was to become a permanent feature of my professional life. I just loved this method of assisting people to solve problems, adapt to life’s challenges and deal with the process of change. And, this sort of inside out way of learning just made so much sense to me!

After qualifying as a solicitor around 6 years later with a corporate/commercial law firm, and armed with a second degree in development law and international economic law, the combined skill set meant that my professional legal practice was never going to follow a ‘normal’ path.

Concurrently with my legal practice, I have worked with companies in the private and NGO sectors in strategic planning and transition management, and I have served on a variety of boards occupying a number of positions including that of chairman and deputy chairman.

I’ve always had an entreprenuerial spirit, willing to put my own creativity to the test with ventures that have a development orientation. It’s that entrepreneurial spirit that caused the law firm I established with my business partner to be the recipient of the first law firm ever to be awarded a Jamaica Chamber of Commerce award for entrepreneurialism. My love of developmental projects drove me to co-found a progressive organisation to improve the real estate market in Jamaica, and my love of people led me to co-found a male mentoring organisation to mentor at risk boys and young men.

Having designed and implemented a highly interactive mentoring programme for boys and young men, and then a conscious mentoring course to support the programme (earning accreditation status from the International Authority for Professional Coaching and Mentoring) and by now having trained well over 100 mentors, I have seen first hand the benefits that mentoring can bring to mentors, mentees and the organisations they serve.

My academic interests are varied, spanning law, governance, human behaviour, philosphy, consciousness and spirituality, each area infusing my life and my work with understanding and meaning.

This unique combination of skills and interests together with my creativity,  entrepreneurialism and a passion to be a part of the the growth and development of progressive leaders and the organisations they lead, inspire me to design and deliver solutions that not only delight them but surpass their expectations. From the drafting of a legal contract or management of a commercial transaction to a complex conflict or organisational transition process, if you describe yourself as progressive, you’ll just love what we can create together for your business success.

Call me. I’m here to help you through your growth or change process.
